DIY Sunbusrt Mirror

August 18, 2012

Toronto Home StagingI have been doing my usual stops in the décor stores to check out what’s new, and I have noticed a lot of sunburst mirrors of different sizes, styles, and finishes. Love it!

Like many pieces of popular decor, there are literally dozens of variations available at a startling array of price points: everything from relatively inexpensive versions that you can find at your local decor store, to over the top, high-ends that will set you back thousands of dollars.

As was last popular in the 1950’s, the sunburst mirror for me has always fallen somewhere between decoration and art. It has that elegant appeal to it coupled with versatility. It looks fantastic over a mantle, on top of a hutch, on top of a headboard, or in the ceiling of a room if you want to make a bigger statement (very dramatic). Where ever it is, it adds instant drama and a flair of sophistication to any space.

Being a big fan of do-it-yourself (DIY) projects, the above photo was my take to replicate a DIY sunburst mirror I saw online by K Sarah Designs made of wood shims (which I thought was really cool); the size was perfect and looks really easy to do.

This is got to be one of my favorite projects, done in 2 days and very inexpensive! A fabulous piece for a little over $50! Not too shabby!
It seems whether old or new, expensive or inexpensive, low or high-end, the sunburst mirror, in one form or another, will be here to stay.
