How to Repair and Rejuvenate Your Wood and Laminate Flooring (Without Refinishing)

March 22, 2017

In every home staging consultations that we do in Toronto and the GTA, flooring is always on top of the list of things that needs to be looked at when it comes to properly showcasing the property. A clean, shiny, and damage-free floor leaves a lasting impression to your buyers and is necessary to the overall presentation and merchandising of property.

Below are the two of the most common flooring problems we see when showcasing a home for sale. Home sellers might look at it as a big and expensive project to tackle, but it is actually not. Here is a quick and easy way to bring your wood and laminate flooring back to life without sanding or refinishing the whole floor.

1. Deep gouges and knicks

Often, gouges and small knicks are common, especially in the older homes which you might think will require full buffing, sanding and doing the whole nine yards. Originally shared by Russ Richards on his You Tube channel, this video shows a quick and easy spot repair approach to this problem.

2. Stressed, scratched, and looking all worn out

Wood and laminate flooring get its constant beating from foot traffic, spills, and scratching. Scratches from pets, kids, and high traffic areas gets visible after time. All these needs to be addressed before your potential buyer steps in. The quick, inexpensive and easy solution is re-waxing.

Mop and clean your floor, let it dry then apply ZEP solution. Let it dry for 30-45 minutes, then apply it again. Do it 3 to 4 times depending on the condition of your wood or laminate flooring. Your floor will look new again, and scratches and discoloration will be less noticeable or gone (depending how deep it is).

We have always used this product and or recommend it to clients because it is easy to use, inexpensive, readily available at any home improvement stores, and it gets the job done.
